Launch Single: Steve Earle

"I Fought The Law"

For the project's lead single, Grammy-Award winning singer and songwriter Steve Earle chose to cover The Cricket's 1960 track "I Fought the Law." Steve said, "I didn't get an electric guitar until I was 26. This was the first song I wanted to play. Covering it now for  a cause so close to my heart is a gift."

Watch this space for the release of all the artists and tracks on Oct. 4, 2024.

"Better Than Jail" Means...

Honoring human dignity, shrinking jails and prisons, and investing in community solutions. With your support for  EJUSA and Free Hearts, we can instead:

Before Jail:
Invest in community-based services that decrease the use of jails.

During Jail: Make jail and prison conditions more humane and keep people connected to their families.

After Jail: Provide meaningful reentry help and lift restrictions on people being able to get work and housing.

You and I Are Better Than Jail

Together, these artists, their 6.5M followers across all platforms, and YOU can join the call to respect the human dignity and potential of everyone in jail and prison.

We can do better, and we must. Right now, jails, prisons, and our system don't provide the conditions for people to have a meaningful second chance.
